DIY Diesel Bug Test Kit

Are you suspicious that your fuel tank might have a Diesel Bug outbreak? There are a few things you can look for before testing the fuel which are:

  1. Are you finding dark brown sludge in your fuel filters?
  2. Is the engine stopping or hunting because no.1?

If you answered Yes to either of the questions above you are right to be suspicious and should test the fuel. This simple test kit works by taking a sample of your fuel and then allowing the fungus/yeasts to grow on the red swab. After 48 hours in a 22 degree environment you will see a very accurate illustration to the severity of your problem. This is an affordable, accurate and fast method to demonstrate if you have a microbial problem in your fuel.

So you tested positive for a microbial outbreak in your fuel, what do you do now? Fortunately there a number of options to consider:

  1. Treat your fuel and tank with a biocide that meets current BPR approvals. This will not only kill existing organisms but will also prevent them from spawning. Diesel biocide treatment.
  2. Even if you have used the biocide above your fuel will be left with dead organism which can still cause engine breakdowns. To get your fuel back to fuel reliability you will need to polish this debris out. You should Hire or Buy a high quality fuel polishing system that removes ALL water and debris. Such systems should have a filter technology called coalescing filtration. See our product range for this.
